Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What separates EAS from other tutoring companies?
At EAS, we focus on making it easy to work with the best tutors out there. That means only hiring tutors that attend or have graduated from) top universities, holding all tutoring sessions wherever and whenever is most convenient for you, and charging an affordable rate.

Who are your tutors?
All of our tutors are current students at (or graduates of) top-tier universities. We currently recruit from Columbia, New York University, Baruch College and Cornell. We personally pre-screen each tutor to assess their ability to teach and require that all of them have previous teaching experience. This is designed to ensure that you have a top-notch tutor with great teaching skills and a firm understanding of the subject you're working on.

Getting Started

How do I book a tutor?
Getting started with
EAS is as easy. First, assess your or your child's academic needs and consider what type of tutor would work best. From there, you can request a tutor, and we'll take care of the rest!

Do I need to choose a tutor?
Nope, we are more than happy to help you find the perfect tutor! Just give us a little information about your needs, and we'll recommend a great match - or give you a couple of great options to choose from.

What should I do if I can't find a tutor that looks right for me?
Don't worry - simply reach out to us so we can discuss your needs. We may know additional things about a tutor that isn't listed, and if we don't already have a perfect tutor for your student, we can often find one for you.

Working with your Tutor

Where do tutoring sessions take place?
In order to make tutoring as convenient as possible, we provide in-home tutoring for all local students at no extra cost. That being said, if for whatever reason you would like your child's instruction to take place outside your home, we can make this work as well. Just provide us with a nearby public location where we'll be allowed to work.

How do I keep track of my student's progress?
Once we create a parent account for you with EAS, you will have access to a customized profile with all the tools you need to manage your child's tutoring sessions and progress. Your tutor will submit an update after every session to let you know what they worked on and how your child is progressing.

What should I do if I need to reschedule a lesson?
You can reschedule a lesson whenever you need to by simply reaching out to your tutor and finding a new time that works. Please note that as a courtesy to our tutors, we deduct half a lesson credit for any lesson that is rescheduled or cancelled day-of, and a full lesson credit for any lesson that is rescheduled or cancelled while the tutor is already en route.

What should I do if my tutor isn't the right fit?
Despite our efforts to ensure all of our tutor-student pairings are destined for long-term success, sometimes a match simply doesn't work out for any number of reasons. After your student's first lesson, if you are not completely satisfied with your tutor's expertise, teaching style, or compatibility with your child, the lesson is on us, and we'll happily assist you in finding a better match.

How does EAS compare to the cost of other tutoring companies?
Our rates are lower than any other competitor in Manahattan that we've found. Here's a sample of competitor rates:

  • Kaplan: $140/hour
  • Princeton Review: $100-$340/hour
  • Advantage Testing start at $165-$685/hour
  • Ivy League Tutors: $125-$250/hour
  • Boonswang Group Incorporate: $175-$500/hour
  • Inspirica - Tutoring and Test Preparation: $225-$525/hour

Why is EAS able to offer a lower rate?
At EAS, we believe that our families should pay for great tutors - not company overhead and marketing. As a result, we strive to minimize the difference between what you pay and what we pay our tutors. By providing all of our tutoring in-home, we eliminate the cost of expensive lesson space AND make our lessons more convenient for our students. We also rely on parent referrals and helpful online resources to build our customer base instead of opting for more expensive marketing tactics. Doing all of this allows us to pay our elite tutors the most competitive wages, while maintaining affordable prices for our customers.

Do I have to pay for travel time?
Nope! As long as your tutor has to travel for fewer than 30 minutes each way, travel time is completely free.

How do I pay for lessons?
Once you have a parent account on our website, it will be easy for you to pay online with any major credit card. You must pay prior to any scheduled tutoring session, but we will gladly refund your money if you're not fully satisfied with your tutor.

Can I book a trial lesson?
Unfortunately, due to a high demand for our tutors, we are not able to offer free trial lessons. However, we're so confident you won't regret your choice to use EAS that we'll happily refund the cost of your lesson if you aren't completely satisfied with your tutor for any reason.

How does your customer referral program work?
Most of our parents don't need any extra motivation to tell their friends about EAS. They do so because they're so pleased with their student's progress, and they want to see other children experience similar success. Even so, we want to show our gratitude when you share EAS with a friend. Any time you refer a friend, family member, or acquaintance, he or she will get the first lesson completely free. When they buy their first package, we'll credit your account with a free lesson as well.
